Future Leaders Symposium

Ritsuko Morita

Title:  “Telescope model” for coordinated organ morphogenesis and stem cell formation.

Session: Future Leaders Symposium

Date:  Wednesday 10 May 2023

Time: 12:00 – 14:30 JPN

Ritsuko Morita completed her Ph.D. study in the field of biotechnology at the Tokyo University of Science looking at tooth regeneration. In 2013, she joined Dr. Hironobu Fujiwara’s laboratory at the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology (CDB), which was reorganized into the RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research (BDR) in 2018. In her recent work, she identified the developmental origin of hair follicle stem cells and proposed a model for explaining coordinated organ morphogenesis and stem cell formation in hair follicle development. Since April 2023, she has been an associate professor (a principal investigator) at Osaka University.

Her research interest is understanding how the homeostatic system is established and functions in skin development.
